Daniel Tet

With over 10 years of experience in just about any technology you can name (Mac, Windows, Intel, Sun, Linux, CHECK! Virtualization, content management, custom OS development, CHECK!), fused with the skill honed from his time at Novo and Accenture, Daniel is a powerhouse of technical and business savvy.

Prior to his time at X2, Daniel built his own successful consultancy that did work for clients such as Napster Japan, Barclays Bank and Symantec.  Before his consultancy Daniel worked with future X2 staffers at Novo Media helping to architect the systems behind sites such as Orbitz and Palm, Inc.

Mr. Tet has led 10+ people teams working on complex international engagements, assisted with sales and worked with our clients on IT strategy, budgeting and project management.  Daniel is a key player in X2 and ready to help lead his service delivery team to meet your business and technical needs all with an eye to fiscal responsibility.

Daniel holds a degree in computer Science from the University of California at Davis and from the time he arrived here from has native Romania in 1988 until now, has certainly earned a Master’s from the school of hard knocks!

● Simplified Content Tools Architecture  – reduced the number of templates from ten to five, created universal modules entry and Layout based templates that allow the moving of content anywhere on a page’s predefined locations and the addition of new layouts ad modules without changes to existing templates. Implemented graphical selection of Layouts and Locations to aid business user’s understanding of how the page is built. 05.2007 – 09.2007 – Barclays Global Investors  – Interwoven TeamSite Architect/Developer (consultant)
● Simplified Content Tools Architecture  – created simplified data entry templates, data and we b assets synchronization specification and tools, popups and natural data entry tools such as (calendars, audience pickers, etc…) for iShares.com the leading website for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Simplified the content audience selection process form a complicated multiple field selection to a single field with appropriate and extensible audience selection tool. Automated Data Deploy, Preview and consolidated code in a few scripts and back end PERL classes to enable scalability of tools. Tools: Teamsite 6.7.1, Open Deploy and Data Deploy

● Developed Business User Productivity Tools – Besides creating a scalable architecture also developed the following features in the templates for the iShares.com project. (a) BGI Tab – a simpler list of DCRs that allows the business user to view their content and key commands (edit, view, preview, unlock) all in a simplified interface to reduce the need to drill down through many directories, (b) Audience picker – reduced the selection of an audience for content from many repeatable fields to a single field allowing the business user to target links, modules or entire pages to a segment of users, (c) simplified templates by removing multiple nested content areas, (d) automated generate, submit and unlock features so that the business user did not have to worry about correct paths and time consuming minutia, (e) created a system to track all assets of a DCR to allow for deployment of all assets automatically reducing tedious file selection by the business user, (f) create business rules checking library that allows validation of data beyond simple regular expression checking of fields, (e) create a utilities library to allow the uniform interaction with CGI scripts that enable data entry.

● Researched and Proposed Portal Approach – based on researched business requirements created a presentation to serve as a foundation for using a Portal as a platform for content delivery and community creation.

05.2006 – 05.1007 – Napster/Napster Japan – Interwoven TeamSite Project Lead/Project Manager (consultant)
● Technical Training and Follow Up with Napster Japan – after initial launch of Napster Japan I followed up (six months later) with a one week contract to train new developers/business users. Noteworthy are the following: that as a contractor I was called back, and that, besides the training, I had to make only a handful of minor changes to templates and scripts – meaning that I had architected and developed a tool that managed thousands of pages and it was successfully being used after I had left the contract.

● Teamsite Project Management, Development and Deployment – Managed a failed Teamsite implementation and delivered in two months what had not been delivered in by previous contractors in six months. Conducted interviews with Music Programming and other team members, re-focused the project to a manageable deliverable, created a new project plan and deployed pages live within two months from start of project. Also created Templates, Workflows, Deployment configurations and helper screens to make the tool more usable. Project delivered successfully working solution for Germany, Canada, United Kingdom and USA territories. Also provided training and support to all territories. Tools: Teamsite 6.5, Opendeploy 6.0.2, PERL, Javascript, HTML, CSS, MS Project, Powerpoint

● International Project Management (Japan)  – Managed a team of developers, creative and system administration resources through the implementation of Interwoven Content Management system to provide tools for the Editorial team as part of the Japan service launch.  Developed complete infrastructure to allow the rapid edit of content and modification of page layout by editorial team reducing time to market from a minimum of a week to fifteen minutes; and reducing the resources needed for a deployment from several departments to a minimum of two (editor and approver). Trained editorial staff for Japan in the use of the tool and provided ongoing support. Tools: MS Project, Visio, Power Point, Photoshop, Teamsite 6.5, Opendeploy 6.0.2, Video Conferencing

● Tools Development and 3rd party integration  – Developed a rights management tool to alert file owner when a particular track or album they had selected falls out of rights; Developed 3rd party integration to allow population of track, artist and album data directly from Napster’s proprietary Digital Asset Management System thus reducing data entry errors while still allowing editorial flexibility. Improved tools by adding color coding to rights fields, Javascript table sorting and added custom views within Interwoven to allow for easier access to data files.  Tools: Perl, HTML, Javascript, Overlib, TableSort,  Apache config., UNIX system administration 08.2005 – 04.2006 – IGE/Ogaming – IT Web Project Manager/IT Manager

● Requirements definition and Vendor comparison – conducted interviews with business leaders and innovators to document all requirements of a content management or portal solution to power the ogaming.com and subsidiary sites. Created vendor comparison matrix based on documented requirements, the preliminary product requirements document to be submitted for bids, functional mockups, graphical/design mockups, and a proposed project plan. Conducted vendor interviews and demonstrations and recommended a solution that was modular, scalable, standards based, open sourced and could easily facilitate development of new applications and support rapid growth.

● Managed eCommerce solution implementation – implemented in three weeks a store that had not been implemented for over six months. Worked with developers, store operations, managers and eCommerce vendor to deploy the solution and start selling on the website.

● Managed technical aspects of office move including managing inside Cat 5 wiring contractor, electricity installation, ordering and configuring firewall, T1 line, switches cables, etc. Created price comparisons for products and vendors and negotiated with data, furniture and remodeling vendors to ensure that all the IT requirements were met and there was room to grow the office from 30 existing employees up to 60 employees with minimal additional cost.

● Managed maintenance of existing website – developed RSS feed, a Konfabulator Widget RSS client to consume the feed, better search and sorting of news articles and created a proof of concept Screen scraping application that could take prices from several competitor’s prices store them in a database and report the results in a web page. Managed the deployment and use of Bugzilla for website updates, coordinated and trained three other PHP developers, and supported content producers with timely website changes. Tools: PHP, Kapowtech, MySQL, Konfabulator, JavaScript, XML.

● Setup IT services with minimal cost – Installed firewall, Samba file sharing, shared network printers, and managed new email system. Besides increasing security and resources availability I was able to keep the costs low by using open source solutions and existing hardware.

03.2004 – 08.2005 – CIMASystems – QA Engineer/Developer
● Managed the development of CIMAMedia from concept to implementation and pilot. CIMA Media is a multimedia advertising technology whereby car dealers can send video movies, slides and static images/coupons to customers via email or email reference. Designed “skins”, visitor tracking application, managed video production, video encoding, image editing and coordinated with email application to provide for visitor tracking. Tools: HTML, PHP, MySQL, Photoshop, Digital Photo Camera, Windows Media Encoder, Windows Media Player. Stakeholders: Video Production company, outside PHP programmer, CIMA’s operations department, car dealership General Manager for pilot approvals.

● Functionally Tested version 4.1 of CIMASystems web/telephony/email software. Created Use-Cases, documented bugs in Bugzilla, and retested fixes. Tested Windows GUI, Java/JSP web applications, proprietary phone script, phone card software settings, and documented results in a status website. Tools: Windows, Dialogic Software, CIMASystems software, HTML Editor, Bugzilla, Perforce.

● Created project plan for delivery of version 5.0 of CIMASystems software product. Tools: MS Project and Gantt Project (an open source MS Project implementation).

● Developed newsletter templates and sent out newsletters to prospects and clients who had signed up for email notification. Tools: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, HTML, ieWeb.

● Redesigned corporate Power Point presentation. Created uniform and attractive look, embedded sample images of CIMA products and integrated Power Point with a Text To Speech software to simulate the CIMA phone interface on a standalone laptop.

● Deployed Sales Force/Opportunity Tracking tool and Requirements definition discussion forum and conducted requirements meetings for version 5.0 of product. Tools: SugarCRM, phpBB forum, Apache, PHP, MySQL, Linux.

● Conducted market research for complementary products that may help cut down our development life cycle and save cost. Research hosted solutions such as Voxeo.com and JSF Components

● Developed web management application for version 4.0 of product, parts of the web application for version 5.0 of product, and new reporting templates. Tools: Java, JSP, JSF, Netbeans, Ant, XML, HTML, MS SQL, CIMA Report Generator.

11.2001 – 03.2004 – ieComputing – (consultant)
● Web Systems Administration – Supported platforms matrix for QA Department by configuring from scratch the complete stack including operating systems, web servers, database servers, application servers to support client’s J2EE compliant Portal and Portal Builder software. Client: Vignette/Epicentric. Tools: Solaris (8,9), AIX, HPUX 11.11, Linux (RH AS2), Windows 2000 Server, Ghost, Weblogic 8.1, WebSphere 5.0.x, SunOne 7, Tomcat 4.x, Oracle 8.1.7.x/9.2.0.x, Vignette Application Portal (4.5/7), Vignette Application Builder (4.5/4.6), Vignette Content Management (7), Intraspect (5.6.x).

● Teamsite Template Development and Administration – Developed new modular templates and supported 5.5.2 Teamsite System. Troubleshooted VirusScan issues, trained users and created improvement matrix. Client: Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Tools: Teamsite, Perl, OpenDeploy, XML, XLST, ASP.

● Teamsite Template Development – Architected a six template system in Teamsite Templating and subsequently built the entire Siebel Support website based on these templates. Client: Sun Microsystems. Tools: Teamsite 5.5.2, PERL, XML.

● Website Development – Developed complete web presence including layout, look and feel, picture selection and photography, content organization, content editing, and hosting on iWeb content management system. Also art directed a six minute narrated flash movie, including organization and editing of script, management of voice and creative talent, storyboarding, integration into website, and creation of a looping version for conference playback. Client: CIMA Systems. Tools: HTML, PHP, MySQL, Flash, CoolEdit, Photoshop, Illustrator.

● Web Development – Developed iWeb, a PHP/MySQL content management system, to allow my clients to quickly and easily update their websites’ articles, pictures, attachments, as well as receive mailing list signups, and sent e-newsletters all from a simple web interface.

● Web Development – Developed long term relationships as webmaster with Community Childcare Council, Kensington Place, Elim Assisted Living, Youth Food Drive, Fullerton First Baptist, Laser Machining Center and My Senior Network; designing the original website concept, building content management driven websites, and even hosting the web sites and email. Tools: HTML, JavaScript, vi, DreamWeaver, PHP, MySQL, Linux, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, iWeb.

● Print and Desktop Publishing: Developed Logos, Business Cards, Postcards, Brochures, and Annual Report for small businesses in the area. Clients: CIMA Systems, Advance Vision Center, 4Cs of Alameda County. Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, web collaboration, Adobe Acrobat, print bureau for four color press output, and bulk mail service.

● Windows Administration – Managed hardware and software upgrade project for a network of 150 Desktops and Workstations distributed over three cities. Including duplicating existing servers, upgrading memory, bios upgrades, virus scanning software, and movement of website to new hosting facility. Client: Keyser Marston and Associates. Tools: Windows 2000 Server, Professional, Symantec Enterprise Virus Protection.

● Training and User Support – Designed Training Workshops and taught business users on the use of Templates, and helped in the configuration of Teamsite Templating engine and fixing of bugs in the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5.2. Client Sun Microsystems.

● Windows System Administration – Deployed complete Windows 2000 based network for 50+ users (AD, DNS, DHCP, file/print).

Four servers: primary and secondary, file server, backup server. This including running cables, and racking servers, as well as collocation facility server deployment. Tools: Veritas BackupExec, Windows 2000 Server software used as backup software.

● Database Design – Developed self contained, self installing Access Database Application for East Bay Municipal Utility District fordelivery to thousands of vendors for compliance work. Tools: Office Developer and Runtime Access.

● Database Design – Developed food service relational database for managing recipes, menus, invoices, activities, schedules and food usage for Assisted Living Facilities using MSAccess.

● Desktop Publishing – Designed and printed, business cards, brochures, annual reports, news letters, catalogs and fliers for small businesses, and non-profits. Tools: PageMaker, Quark Xpress, Illustrator, Photoshop.

● Security and Networking – Configured Netscreen 100, Linux ipchains and Linksys firewall solutions.

05.2000 – 11.2001 – NOVO – UNIX System Administrator/Consultant
● Teamsite Project Management – worked directly with client and sales people to manage a Proof of Concept installation of Teamsite for Synopsys, and a Complete Teamsite installation for Palm.com. Managed client expectations/project scope, other consultants and vendors; created training sessions, configured production servers, developed and modified workflows, created automatic deployment tools, successfully deployed live site from Teamsite, and provided post deployment support. Tools: Teamsite, PERL, XML, OpenDeploy, Shell Scripting, Solaris System administration.

● Team Management – Initiated and managed weekly project meetings, between IT/IS, engineering and Infrastructure Services teams, to plan and coordinate technology related projects. Created a system administrator’s intranet with FAQ’s, helpful tools and configuration information.

● Web and Systems Administration – Configured proof of concept server to demonstrate how ATG and Teamsite can work together; created automatic server configuration tools for Linux, Apache, Samba, Tomcat reducing the provisioning of a website to 10 minutes; configured and supported five production Linux servers hosting 20+ websites, supported over 20 web developers and designers on Linux and Solaris.

● System Administration – Configured and supported the Orbitz.com development server. Configured and managed Weblogic instances for developers, upgraded server and integrated with iPlanet and Apache.

● Performed IT audits and Y2K project audits, pointing out potential business and organizational risks due to technology, technology compliance, technology business processes, as well as recommended ways to mitigate the risks and/or improve processes. Clients: Sanmina, Pacific Lumber, Cal Pretzel, Fresno Hospital.

● Developed database application for casino client to import and track events on any number of slot machines.

● Rapidly Developed database, using Access, VBA and SQL, allowing client to quickly come up with infrastructure for Y2K compliance tracking, asset management, and legal compliance. Software was sold to a new client besides the initial client it was developed for. Clients: Intermedia Partners, H&Q

● Spearheaded selection process for Quality Assurance Software for Arthur Andersen call center in Phoenix AZ.
